Mailbox locks

Cluster mailboxes at apartments and subdivisions, individual residential boxes, and commercial mail units. The usual situations are a lost key, a lock that's seized from weather, or a new tenant who never received a key in the first place. We open, rekey, and replace mailbox locks and cut replacement keys.

Who has to authorize mailbox work

Worth knowing before you call. For a cluster box owned by the USPS, access and lock changes go through the Postal Service, not a locksmith. For privately owned boxes — most apartment complexes, subdivisions, and commercial buildings — the property owner or manager authorizes the work. Tell us which situation you're in and we'll tell you straight whether it's a job we can legally do.

Storage units

Lost padlock keys, disc locks with no key, cylinder locks on roll-up doors, and units where the tenant has changed. Storage facilities generally require the facility manager to confirm your right to access the unit before anything gets opened, which is a rule that exists to protect your belongings as much as anyone's.

Vending machines and coin-operated equipment

Vending machines, coin-op laundry equipment, amusement machines, and cash boxes all use tubular and specialty locks that most people can't source and most locksmiths don't stock. We open them, replace the locks, and can key multiple machines alike so an operator carries one key instead of twenty.

Cabinets, lockers, desks, and toolboxes

The same category of problem: a small lock, a missing key, and something behind it you need. Filing cabinets, office furniture, gym lockers, tool chests, and equipment cases. Usually quick, usually cheaper than people expect, and usually solvable without destroying the item.

Why this is worth having a locksmith for

The temptation with small locks is to attack them with bolt cutters or a drill. That works, in the sense that a hole in a door works. It also destroys hardware you'll have to replace and can damage the cabinet, machine, or box around it. Proper opening tools cost less in the end.

Common Questions

Mailboxes, Storage Units & Vending FAQ

Can you open my apartment mailbox?

If the box is privately owned by the property, yes, with the property manager's authorization. If it's a USPS-owned cluster box, that has to go through the Postal Service.

What do I need to open a storage unit?

Confirmation from the facility that the unit is yours and you're current. Facilities are strict about this and rightly so.

Can you key all our vending machines to one key?

Yes, in most cases. That's a common request from operators and it's a considerable improvement over a ring of twenty.

Is a small job like this worth your time?

Yes. Small locks are still locks and people still need them open.

Need a locksmith right now?

We're open 24 hours. Call directly for the fastest response.
